My target database is summer. My recovery catalog is in a database called kris. I'm looking to duplicate summer. The name of the duplicate database is dupsum. I took a consistent whole database backup of summer. I created the auxiliary instance and gave this command.
rman target internal/summer@summer rcvcat rman/rman@kris auxiliary internal/dupsum@dupsum
This is the error i got.
Recovery Manager: Release 8.1.7.0.0 - Production
RMAN-06005: connected to target database: SUMMER (DBID=2912805942)
RMAN-06008: connected to recovery catalog database
RMAN-06020: connected to auxiliary database

RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-00554: initialization of internal recovery manager package failed
RMAN-06403: could not obtain a fully authorized session
RMAN-04006: error from auxiliary database: ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
Since the auxiliary database was not open i tried 'startup nomount pfile=d:oracleadmindupsumpfileinit.ora' from svrmgrl prompt, having connected as internal/dupsum@dupsum
I got this message
ORA-27102: out of memory
I tried 'startup nomount pfile=d:oracleadmindupsumpfileinit.ora' once again immediately
I got this message
ORA-27100: shared memory realm already exists
What's happening?

Hi,
I am having Oracle 9i installed on Win2000. I got this error when configuring database using Database Configuration Assistant.
I stopped the oracle service for the instance and tried, this time successful.
So the reason, i think is that the instance was not properly shutdown.
Shutdown the instance properly and try.
Hope this will help.
Warm Regards,
Balwinder Singh.
